How to wire a two post amp gauge?

Hi I have a 52 8n(still 6 volt original system) and am wondering how to wire the new ammeter gauge the post read positive on left side negaty on the opposite side?? Thanks.

If it had a "loop ammeter", you have to cut the loop and install a wire terminal on each end.

Connect a lead to each ammeter post, then observe it's operation.

If it reads backwards, swap the leads.

One end of the ammeter goes to the power supply (usually not fused), this can either be directly to the battery or in the case of my tractor the post on the solenoid that gets battery juice.

The other end goes to your charging output. If you have a regulator, it would go on the battery marked post of the regulator. If you have an alternator it connects to the (by a wire usually 12 gauge) alternator.

The ammeter should read negative when cranking with the starter, then the needle will point in the positive when the tractor is running (presuming the charging system is charging). As said in the above post, if the needle in the gauge points opposite of my directions, reverse the connections on the posts of the gauge.

Ditto what bob said. if going from a loop meter, cut the wire, add ring ends.

now here is the tricky part. loop meter has 2 mount studs and the loop. post meter has 2 studs only. they are mount and electrical contact. it will come with a insulation grommet or frame, etc.. so that mounting harwdare doesn't short out the meter contacts to the chassis.

Do I still leave the yellow wire threw the loop hooked up to the terminal block?/when installing the new two post gauge?

Listen, its simple and you are trying to make it hard.

Old meter wire went thru a metal hoop in back of the meter. CUT the wire right there and install 2 eyelets.

Install meter with its insulators, put the 2 eyelets on the 2 posts, install nuts. If meter reads backwards, swap wire around.
