Ford 950 Hydraulics Issue

I recently installed a Ford Model 711 Loader on my 1955 Ford 950. After contacting the hydraulics and checking the fluid levels, I was quite pleased when I was able to raise and lower the loader a couple of times. But after that, nothing......I checked the fluid level, and it was a little low, so I topped it off. Still nothing, no leaks, but no hydraulics, and that includes the 3-point. I assumed air was trapped somewhere in the system, and proceeded to bleed the pump, but found no pressure at the pump. At this point I assume the pump is bad, unless someone else has another suggestion or observation. Also, how do you tell if this is vane or piston type pump. 1955 Ford. Thanks

The vane pump is somewhat square and squat. No bleeder on it, but it may have a proportioning valve. The piston pump is round and longer with a bleeder port on the front top.

If you are not getting any oil out of the open bleeder port with the tractor running, you may not be getting oil to the pump. You can try putting some oil down the bleeder hole. This may or may not work. You can also park the tractor with the front end down in a ditch. This will get oil to the pump. Alternately, use rubber tipped blow gun and put some low pressure air down the dipstick hole. Keep the bleeder plug out as you do this. That will usually get some oil up there.

first, lets get some basics down.

How ddi you connect your hyds tot he tractor.

diverter vavle?

spool valve?

chained down 3pt, and using hte 3pt handle?

if a diverter valve.. did you remember to un-divert?

pressure is a function of volume of flow and resistance.

opening a bleeder on the pump could show flow but won't show much pressure unless there is resistance to flow. back pressure valve won't be more than about 40 psi...

Tractor has stock auxiliary valve. Hooked the single loader line to the forward port per the Loader operator manual. I left the 3 point lever in the full down position and used the auxiliary valve to raise and lower the loader. Raised and lowered the loader twice. Stopped, checked added some fluid, and then it wouldn't raise again.

y guess as to a place to look would be the aux valve, because it probably had not been operated in years.
