tractor died. changed fuel filters (3166). runs aok. had problem with primary upper fuel gasket staying in grove so that i could place filter in. is there a trick for this. seems like ring groove in upper housing is too wide and allows gasket to fall out. should gasket be soaked first to make it tighter so that gasket adhers. have mf 1100 with cav set up and dont have this problem.
took 1.5 hrs. frustracting.

Try something other than NAPA junk filters. New Holland or Fleetguard branded filters have seals that fit correctly.
You probably already know the upper and lower seals are different diameters. Maybe the NAPA filter supplier (Wix) forgot.

As Rick said, the OEM filter seals will likely work better. Having said that, a little grease or vaseline should help hold the seal in place.
