Hi All New to the forum. Just got an old Ford know nothing about it . The problem is in the steering. You cant. 15 mins. and I want to go back to using my shovel. Is it just that tight with age or can I loosen it up somehow. Or is there a way to put power steering on it? I am 70 and got it to make life a little easier and thats not happening. I would be greatfull for any help that is given.
Thanks Loner

Since you say "go back to using my shovel", I assume that it has a front end loader and that you have been using it for loader work. A loader on a tractor with manual steering is not a user friendly combination.

If the loader has down force you can use it to lift the front wheels off the ground and see how easy it is to steer with no weight on the front, and also try to push and pull on the wheels, top and bottom, fore and aft, to see how much slop there is, as well as check the steering linkage for slop and get an idea of what might be worn and needs to be replaced.

Pretty much all old Ford tractors that have manual steering can have power steering added, but you need to know what model tractor it is before you can order the correct kit.

If you want to identify the tractor model, click on the link below and read through that page and look at the pictures. There should be enough information there to help you identify it, and if you can't figure it out on your own after that, post some pictures of your tractor back here and we should be able to help.
