distributor stuck

Went to adjust timing the other day and the distributor is froze up. Any tips or tricks to breaking it free without breaking anything else in the process? 4000 4cylinder tractor.

I hope you removed what ever clamp was holding the distributor? Otherwise you could try using some vise grips or a very small pipe wrench. Dont tug on it too hard, or clamp on it to tight. After all you are only trying to turn it, not destroy it.

Did you get a scope to check the timing marks? May not need to move the distributor at all.

Yes, I had the hold-down bolt loosened up. I guess penetrating oil may help, too?
