My pto shifter lever seal is leaking. The ford shop manual instructions for replacing the seal do not include any mention or photo of the clutch pedal spring which is attached to the shifter lever cover plate.Maybe I'm missing something but it looks like it could be a chore to reattach that spring.Would one of you helpful guys give me some guidance on this? Thanks!

I'm having a hard time understanding your question.
The PTO lever seal is just an Oring. You drive out the pin, take it apart and replace the Oring - I think. I did it once on a 4 speed but never on a twin stick.
But what does the PTO lever have to do with the clutch return spring? Unless someone jury rigged a spring on there...
There were two types of clutch return Springs - early and late. Early type was in the bell housing, late type was on the side - between the pedal and rear center housing. But it did not attach to the PTO cover in any way.
Can you post a picture?

My 2000 leaks a bit. I replaced the O-ring but I think it's the gasket I made. The clutch spring has to come off to get the plate off. IIRC the spring bracket uses two of the cover bolts and it's a little tricky to get the spring back on. Obviously, you have to drain the rear end first, about six gallons.

There is bracket attached with the sane bolts that hold the pto shifter lever mounting plate to the transmission case. The bracket holds the spring that holds the clutch pedal up. There is tension on that pretty heavy spring which makes me think it could be a real problem for this old man to reattach the spring.I'm hoping some one who has wrestled with this could give some guidance. I'll try to get a picture. Thanks'

Thanks for your guidance. I used a dental pic and removed the O ring,no problem. This site is a real help to us duffers!
