Ford 600 tire rotation

After sitting for two years, why are my rear wheels rotating in opposite directions on a 600. Transmission in neutral. I had two different sized tires on it when I tried to pull it to a different spot to mow underneath. It rolled for a few feet then locked up. When I was changing the 11.2x28 to a 13.9x28, so they would match again, I discovered the tires rotate in opposite directions.

If you try to pull it and one tire goes one way and the other the other way that means it is locked in 2 gears or the transmission is rust up real bad or if it was winter time it was full of water/ice.

If you have it jacked up so that both rears are off the ground,
when you rotate one tire the other should rotate in the opposite
direction. That's the action of the rear differential working.
That does not explain why it locked up towing it though.

Will I do further damage by dragging it other than possibly to the tires ? It's now in my driveway and I'd want to get it back into my yard, maybe 100 feet?

Did you check to see if it was out of gear?

No it shouldnt hurt if you pull it at a constant. Though it wont help what ever is stuck. May make it worse. Just for giggles, make sure the pto lever is toward the front of the tractor (out of gear).

If it's a 600 series then it should only be a 4 speed or a 5 speed. Does it shift in a car style H pattern or do you have to raise and lower the shifter to access all of the gears?

I don't know, I can see the numbers 1'2'3 on three sides around the shifter, have to scrape the crud off, maybe there is a 4 there also. Will have to find out this weekend. Will post again when I get the information on the trans.

If you don't know what your shift pattern is, then how do you know it's in neutral?
