I use a sae30 motor oil in my tractor I only drive in warm weather not in winter could I use a sae40 or 50 to help with tractor burning oil or what options do I have

I have used a bottle of STP when I change the oil. It seems it has helped mine. I would want to be careful about going to a higher grade. I use straight 30 wt in all my equipment.

As others said when you ask an oil question, it's like asking who has the best looking girl friend, all are best,

If you don't think so, let the motor run out of oil and see what happens,

My old gas motor tractor is like me "old and worn". I have had the best results using a diesel rated oil,

I use shell rotella 15w40, it's great oil, my little tractor runs good and holds good oil pressure on this oil,

However if you are burning oil, the only real fix is new metal, a rebuild job: rings liners Pistons then you should be good to go,

The high mileage oils do have additives that help old seals swell a little but that won't help with the rings . Heavier oil won't help with the rings either but it will help if your oil pressure is low . Keeping your oil changed and motor tuned up will help a little . If you have spark plugs you may go up one heat range if your plugs are fouling a little . There is no magic bullet though and you will probably not notice with anything you do .

Taken from the back of the non detergent oil container.

"""""A Non-Detergent Oil that is designed for use where additives are not required. Recommended for straight mineral oil lubrication. Not recommended for use in automotive engines.

CAUTION: This oil is rated API SA. It contains no additives. It is not suitable for use in most gasoline powered automotive engines built after 1930. Use in modern engines may cause unsatisfactory performance or equipment harm.""""
