Changed 75 Ford 3400 Transmission Oil.....

And this is what I got.... :?

Read up on it some and most seem to think its either water getting in through the shifters or just condensation building up. If its condensation, I would think the rear diff would also have condensation in it but it doesnt. Level would right at the level plug in the side before changing it so it wasnt high. No serious leaks that I can see.

Rear Diff is also at its proper level.

Maybe it wasnt a good idea but it was all I knew to do. Several people say they flushed the rear diff with diesel which I wouldnt like since that supplies the pump and three point. Either way, I put 3 gallons of diesel in the transmission, drove it literally around in a circle back to where I was working on it and drained it. Diesel went in green and came out slightly milkly. Filled it up with fluid and went about my way.

That's a lot of water. Course if it was never changed then probably normal.

When I was in industry, I did some testing on non-hermetically sealed containers exposed to variances in atmospheres and the physics of it is that
the containers will ingest 99% relative humidity on the "suck" stroke, but only exhale like 50% on the "blow" stroke, the rest remaining in the
container.

With that said, yes you could have gotten some in via rain down the shifter(s) along with your atmospheric cycling, but any other opening would
also contribute. On why not in the differential, must be better sealed.....no other reason as I see it.

Or the previous owner thought it was all one common sump and only changed the rear end on a regular basis.

All valid thoughts. Ive noticed it seems that one of the hydraulic lines to the pump was replaced. Since the lines are mounted at the bottom of the rear end that would drain it when the hose was removed. Not knowing when this was done its possible condensation hasn't had time to build up in the rear diff.

Either way, nothing I can do now but run it and see. It shifts good, no noises that I can hear over the engine clattering away.

Ive only owned it for a few weeks. Power steering was dry also....
