Mistaken identity

Hey guys , Ive been restoring what i thought was a 1964 4000 , but its looking like Ive got a 800 series tractor. I rescued it from a barn in SC. I took it home as a non runner and decided to go ahead and paint it and replace what ever she needed. I recently found out from some kind folks here that what I thought I had was not. I repainted it the same colors that it was when I bought it before knowing exactly what I had . My falt there. Now that I have found out its not a 4000 series , shes all wrong and I m wondering what to do now . I was wanting to take her to the tractor show here in Sept , but she has the wrong markings.
Maybe I can get everyone to think that she's Transgender now and she thinks shes a 4000. LoL

Here's a before and after pic . Its beenn a long three months since I took this venture on ,but Oh well , she does run good !!

wedgehead,

Okay, I admit it. I'm not a purist. Frankly, if I had a tractor that looked even half that good, I'd show it off just like it is. My 1964 Ford 4000 diesel looks like a rag compared to your tractor.

If you have purists at your show, just smile and thank them for looking. At least, that's what I'd do.

Why keep guessing?? Look just behind the starter sort of under the battery on the left side and you will see 2 bolt holes. Just above those holes will be the model number and under it will be the serial number. It will say something like this example
841S
&^$^%$&%^
In this case it is a model 841S and the S says it has a Sherman aux transmission in it

I's not an 800 series, it's an 801 series. Specifically, with that 4 speed transmission it is an 841 model within the 801 series.

As I said in your previous thread, Ford had a program where you could take your old red hundred and '01 series tractors to your local dealer and they would paint them blue (for a fee of course) to look like the newer thousand series. Just show it as an 841 that was repainted by the dealer under that program.

Wedgehead,
I brought up the mistaken identity. I did it not to make you regret the great job you have done to make the old gal look new again. I did it to help you avoid some grief in case you went to the parts store and ordered something that is different between the two models. Most things are the same, but there were changes. Heck there are changes even within a series as Ford made running updates as these tractors were being made.
Be proud of your tractor!

Is it an 841? I can't see the rear hubs enough on the phone to see smooth or slotted.

I dint bank on sheet metal grill or dash either. I myself own sheet metal that spans 53-63 in a mix of tractors from the same times ;)

Has he posted his trans codes, engine and rear axle codes?

With an egg crate grill and a 4 speed tranny. It is an 841. Not much difference between the 801 series and a 4000.

It really does look nice. I would not be afraid to show it off with the wrong markings. 85% of the show goers won't know the difference. You see all kinds of tractors at shows with chrome added that is not correct.

As long as you're just showing it for fun don't worry about it. The fact that it's got an alternator would keep it from winning any kind of originality contest anyway.

THANKS EVERYONE . I just really posted the thread just for fun mostly anyway . I did get the lift cover off and with some of your guys help i knew what to look for and I got the valves freed up . I think the O ring on the unloader valve wasnt tight enough in the bore and must have been letting fluid leak by. I installed new O rings and put it back on last night and she worked . Big Smile on my face.

Thanks again, Awesome folks on this site ! I really appreaciate all the help and comments from all you guys !!!!!

Thanks, Wedge

Looks mighty nice but you gotta keep it out of my bathroom!

Wedgehead,

Beautiful Hybrid!!

When they hang an ID card on the front at the tractor show, have them bill it as:

"The 841 That Wouldn't Be"

"841 With a Mind of Its Own"

T

That's right. I'm gonna remove the 4000
decal and get my local vinyl sign guys to
make me an Ford 841 Power Master decal in
blue and put it on . Should look ok and be
correct

Whatever it is it's a damned handsome beast. I think Fords of that vintage were the very best looking. :) I'd love to get one from that era.

That was my first clue. Also having/having had the 2000 and 4000 restorations, the crown on the hood has a chrome cap that the 2000 doesn't.

If you want to show it, show it. If any smarty pants (knowledgeable Ford guy) contests you as to originality, just grin and tell him he gets the booby prize......Grin.
