barn find (kinda) 861 diesel

Not really a barn find as I knew it was there. I think there are about five people that know where it is.

It is a 1959 861 diesel. Too make a long story short.A friend of the owner borrowed it and filled it full of crappy diesel. It was at the repair shop when the owner died. Family did not want to spend the money to replace the pump. It did get new injectors. I'm guessing the injectors may not be good anymore. Been sitting with fuel in it since 2013. I have not asked the owner about buying it this year yet.. Back in 2013 she wanted $7,000.

It has power adjust rims that have been patch together with another pieces from another rim. It needs tires, gauges, and 3rd gear has a problem.

It was overhauled by a Ford dealer in 1984 when the owner bought it. Was really nice tractor. Owner was very proud of it and took good care of it. After he died is a different story.

Was thinking about offering her $500-700?

I picked one up for 400$ .mine had one knew tire other fair .welded block seems to hold only ran maybe 1 hour .good luck make a offer it's not a 7000$ tractor that's for sure. I've seen them on Craig's list very very nice 5000 and there still there.they sure are a nice looking tractor

I'd say if you could get it for under $1K you did fine. 861D is the top of that series. We're the injectors replaced at overhaul or after the bad fuel? If the latter they are fine.
Pump overhaul will run you around $700.

I just acquired a '58 861D and love it. Not pretty but engine runs well and everything important works (a few things, like temp gauge, need patching up). I paid $4K and felt that I overpaid by about $500, but tires were really good, the tractor had been taken care of, and I wanted a diesel 861, so I caved. The 861D's don't seem to be too common these days, esp. on east coast where I am.

you are on the money on what to offer, I would NOT go over a grand.
$500 tractor in my book. But I dont pay much for non running tractors. The last ones I bought were $500 tractors and I am good with them.
I bought a running 641 with a loader on it for 2 grand , I will have twice that in it when I am done and that does not include paint and tires. It is EZ ti sink a pile of cash in a tractor that has been setting.
