hi guys we have a 981ford that we need to paint for a customer. need to know the right color for the red and gray.also what was painted red, gray anything black or other colors, thanks for any help.anybody have pictures of one redone

Can't tell you what the color codes are, but here's what I think the scheme is or was.

The grill (less the screen), the chassis, the dash and the center of the hood (the part tat flips open to gain access to fuel tank and radiator) were painted the red-orange color. Most of the rest was painted the grey color. The shifter body was likely red-orange with grey end caps. I have seen variations on the shifter though. The steering wheel was black. Throttle was cadmium coated. The carb may or may not have been painted as well as the generator and starter. The rear rims were silver. I'm not sure if that was paint or coating.

Hopefully, someone more in the know will respond here.

The gray is not the same as the earlier tractors. They came out with a different gray for the xx1 series. I don't believe that you can get that one ready made. I got mine custom mixed using the under side of the gas tank cover, for the paint store to duplicate. A friend did the same thing and you can't tell them apart.

Also the starter and generator were red from the factory. We know that they would not have started if the starters were a different color from the block. I have an original full color ad for XX1s, so any specific questions just shoot.

There are some nice photos there but they represent only how a few people decided to paint their own tractors. Here is a pic of one of mine.
