I need to replace the shift boot on a 4spd hundred series. How does the knob at the top of the shift lever come off? I can't
tell if it is screwed or pressed on. Thanks

duck, if you have or could borrow a strap wrench, attached picture, it would make it easier to take off the shifter knob.
am sure its been on there for many years,

if you put a large pair of channel locks on the Bakelite knob, it may chip or bust it in a million pieces.

if nothing else maybe wrap the knob in multi wraps of duck tape, anything to keep the jaws of the pliers from biting into the Bakelite.
