75 Ford 3400 Power Steering seals

Hate to start a new thread, but I suppose this is a different issue. Got the seal kit (DHPN3A674B) in for my pump and something is wrong. The seal that was in my pump was a one piece seal that sealed both ways. The kit came with two seals that you put in opposite ways to seal both ways.

Problem with this is the seats for the seals are stepped. Meaning that the seals must be different sizes to fit in two different seats. One presses in with some resistance using a socket by hand. I didnt realize what was going on and tried to press it on in with a vice. Destroyed the new seal... Both seals are of identical size and have the same numbers on them.

Anyone have any clue whats going on here?

Its hard to see the steps but you can kind of see them here. The first seal will press into the middle portion like you would think it should. Nice and firm. If you put the second seal in on that it just falls back out. Trying to press it on in to the bottom is when I ruined it. I was using a socket that fit perfect down in the bore.

It's been a while since I resealed one of those
pumps. I think some used two seals, and others only
used one. If the step prevents it from fitting right, it
won't be sealing anything, anyway. ..

Thanks for the reply. At least it lets me know there is a reason why the seals I have wont work. Hopefully the new seal I odered will be the correct one.

Not sure how why the new holland parts page doesnt mention this?? The parts break down shows one seal yet the kit listed on the same page comes with two seals.....
