63 Ford 4000 diesel 4 cyl. FUEL IN OIL PROBLEM

So this engine has Benn completely overhauled I had it resleeved and I put new everything inside the block. Head has been redone everything new. Fuel injection pump completely rebuilt. Just got everything out back together Thursday and spent Fri. trying to start her. I followed injector pump bleeding to a tee after cranking the engine over n over for about an hr. and not seeing 1 drop come out the injector lines I have up had dinner and decided to get a fresh start next morning. Walked in to barn next morning to a huge puddle of fuel underneath the tractor. After searching all around n every where I determined it was leaking between the oil pan and tranny face. Our so I think then I noticed a crack in the pan and fuel coming out there so I drained the oil and what was suppose to be 5 quarts of oil turned in to about 3 gallons of diesel. Can someone tell me what happened here please? I've been searching the web for answers and have seen so many different answers I'm going crazy. Thanks

There can be fuel leaks at the leak off return line across the top of injectors under the valve cover on that engine too. Could be loose bolts, cracked banjo-line joints, bolt gaskets, etc.

Thanks for answering I'll keep that in mind but, if you rad my post again you will see I mention that I never saw 1 drop of fuel come out of the injector lines. I have pulled the pump out and everything is intact. I pulled the pump shaft out and the seals n o-ring are in great shape. Do you know how our why fuel would get by these seals even though there not damaged?

Not common, but the injection pump pilot tube may be damaged where the seals ride. Pump may need a new tube epoxied in place. The steel tubes can wear like the brass tubes that I replace a lot of, but the steel does wear slower.

interesting I'll have to check into that thank you. I was thinking about getting a hold of her I had rebuild the pump and ask them some questions as well see what they can tell me maybe even take it back to him and see what he can tell me. Hopefully he will do it for no charge yeah right LOL

Update on this matter!!

So I finally figured out my issue and after sitting down and reading the section on pump installation and timing at a slower pace and absorbing the info. I then started over from begging and followed step by step while performing each step. This is what I come up with as the cause of fuel being pumped in to crank case.

At the point of doing the priming your suppose to have:

1 fuel supply line connected to filter
2 Supply line from filter to pump connected
3 Return line to fuel cell Disconnected
4 Injector lines connected at pump and Disconnected at Injectors but, sitting approx. 1/16" away from front of injectors.
" This allows fuel to wash Injector connection and Line connection clean of debris before connection."
5 Return line from Injectors to fuel cell Connected
6 Turn engine over with starter until you see fuel coming out each injector line at an equal amount.
7 Connect Injector lines to Injectors. Tighten down then loosen two turns.

First Notice I skipped the parts of opening the fuel feed line, priming the filter! I'm trying to get to the point is all.

NOW WHAT THESE INSTRUCTIONS FAIL TO SAY,INFORM ARE::

After fuel passes filter and begins filling the pump " by itself thru gravity no assistance needed" is that FUEL WILL START POURING OUT RETURN TO TANK CONNECTION AND THIS IS O.K. INFACT YOU WANT THIS WHILE YOU TURN ENGINE WITH STARTER TO PRIME THE INJECTOR LINES.

[/color:e20dab5517] You will also need to be patient!! It will take some time for fuel to start coming out injector lines at injector side.

I would see fuel flowing out return port and either connect the return line back on or plug it. [/color:e20dab5517] THIS IS A BIG NO NO REPEAT NO NO [/color:e20dab5517]

Not letting fuel escape/run off and stopping the fuel or sending it back to tank
WILL CAUSE SERIOUSE BACK PRESSURE AND FORCE THE FUEL PAST UMBRELLA SEALS AND DIRECTLY IN TO CRANK CASE.

It took me 2 times to learn this! Don't let it happen to you.

A couple other things to mention.
You will need a bucket for the fuel that's pouring out return line connection while priming injector lines.
I found that instead of having fuel tank on. Use a 1 Gal. fuel can and leave head cover off. Not only does this allow you to see if there's leaks in return line from injectors to tank but, your going to have to recheck your valve lash after engine warms to operating temp.

Thanks for this information Socalrancher. It could be very useful to me in the future. I think that I get it but am not positive. Could you repost it and use the preview to correct any typos? Thanks.
