Ford 4200 narrow front tractor

I'm new to posting anything but have scrounged through the site occasionally and it helped me figure out that what I'd thought was a 4000 was really a 4200. Its really more tractor than I need but was all I could find at the time. I've seen posts from a while ago about this model but don't find much about them. Does anyone know how collectible these are and their approximate value. I think its a 1970 but that's based on information for 4000's.

For all intents and purposes it is a 4000. Shares all the same chassis, engine and transmissions as the standard AP (all purpose) models.
They don't usually bring as much as an AP model.
As usual, value will depend on running condition, tires, which transmission it has, whether it is gas or diesel and appearance - tin, paint, etc.
They aren't much of a loader tractor.
They are not rare by any means but they aren't ubiquitous like their AP sisters .
Ford only built them for 9 years - 1966-75
They do have a following and have quite a bit of cool factor to them.
Several guys here have them. Those and the bigger 5200 which was based on the 5000 platform.
I take it it the numbers in your screen name is a zip code?
So I suppose you're not the guy from northern Minnesota who recently bought one are you?
Welcome to the Ford Board. This is an excellent place for help and information on that series tractor.

they are cool, different, look good, you do not meet yourself going down the road,
if you have a set of front cultivators, they do a good job and you can cultivate a taller crop than the regular model.

but, if you are older like me they are harder to climb up on/off.

if you have hills on your property, they are more unstable (that is just my opinion)

they do turn sharp, again, advantage with the cultivators

some say in muddy conditions the two front wheels together can push up mud and you can get stuck quicker, not sure but possible,

I would sure like to have one, but most of my tractor work would still be with the regular model.

Thanks. I'm in southern WI and bought this about 15 years ago. I recently bought a new JD with a loader and mower that works better for what I need. This one is a diesel and has its issues but still does the heavier cutting that the new one can't do, until I get a rotary mower. I tried uploading a picture but the file size is too large.

Think I got a picture to work.

Where abouts in southern WI? My Dad grew up in Broadband, still have family in the area.
If you ever decide to sell it, give me a shout. A diesel 4200 is on my wish list.

Nice.
Diesel with an 8 speed is the most desirable.
I assume that step is home made?
Better than the small one that came on it originally.
I see the decal on the side of the nose.
Can't quite read the name but that's definately an outline of WI.
If it's original the tractor likely never went too far from home.
Perhaps they have more of a fan base than I thought. 3 guys here already have mentioned that they'd like to have one.
You must be a fairly smart guy as I see a Chevy in the background of your photo.
Here's another 4200 - with a Chevy in the background. You're in good company here :)

Not sure about the step, it was there when I bought it. It is an 8 speed diesel. I'm just outside of Madison and have been tossing around the idea of selling it to make more room in the barn. If I did this correctly, my email should be available. I'm willing to discuss.

wow, geared 4000 diesel muscle.....and a narrow front end...perfect.
(saved your pic...hope you don't mind)
Sure would like to own it...but they are usually out of my price range....scratch that..I've [i:ded03bec3d]heard[/i:ded03bec3d] they are out of my price range...I've never actually seen one for sale in my area.

Its not letting me send you an email. I may be doing it wrong I don't know all the tricks!!! If you get a chance see if it will let you send me one. Thanks

I appreciate everyone's comments. I have decided to part with this tractor and will place a photo ad this evening, I was having difficulty with the email reply function so hope to let all know my intentions.
