I was watching this 740. Non-runner, junk tires, no battery.
Ad says its been in storage. No mention of how long.
But it has really nice fenders that I wanted, power steering,
remote hydraulics, both a wide and narrow front end.

Sold for $1625 + a 13% buyer's premium. (10% cash)
Plus your time and fuel to go get it. Roughly $2000.
Did I mention it was a non-runner with junk tires?

fenders $300
Front tin $500
rims $350
Power steering $500
remotes $200
rest of tractor must be worth $150
LOL Boss

Don't forget the two piece front bolster and both front ends!
Still won't get me to pay that much for a non-runner.
If you happen to know who bought it, I'd be interested in the fenders!

Just one of those models.
If a tractor jockey rolled in with that one on his trailer and said $2k, I'd tell him to push it off his trailer, I own it.
Most 740's here are double or triple that. Missed a decent barn find one last year by 5 minutes...told the dealer to call the guy (I knew both) who bought it after a phone call at a hefty price, sight unseen. Tell him I'll give him double......he did..guy said no

Engine wouldn't concern me at all. It'll run, if it don't the next engine will.
I'd sell that silly, useless wide-front, sell the seat to UltraDog,
listen for the right offer on the spin-outs, I have tires/rims.
and end up with my most wanted 740... with remotes.....for cheap.

Big difference between a non runner like
that and a non runner dragged out of the
hedgerow. I would say as long as it
turned over that was a good deal for
that unusual model

Nope.
That seat has the new style rubber torsion
spring. I like the old steel torsion spring.
I'll take the bucket though.
Royse, I think you blew it on that one.
Beautiful fenders with lights, PS, low
hours, etc, etc.
You could have exchanged the items you
wanted and resold it for $2K easy.

whileI prefer a front end, the wide front is far from useless. it's quite a step up from the backwards design you see ont he regular ag chassie models.

"Royse, I think you blew it on that one."

The consensus seems to agree with you Jerry!
Maybe it's just a location difference, even though
those three were not all that far from me.

I've bought a 960 and a prior 4000 row crop locally,
a couple years apart, both in good working order.
The 960 has a professionally rebuilt engine with receipts.
The 4000 has dual remote hydraulics.
Both with PA rims, good rear tires and the long drop drawbar.
Live PTO and more horsepower than a 740.
$1200 and $1500 respectively.
The 960 was even delivered for that $1200.

By comparison, that auction seems high.

Royse, how do you find such cheap row crop fords? FOr that matter, how do you find them at all? I wish I had your luck! LOL

There was a non runner ford 971 (I think) with select-o-speed for $3000. It was gone in 3 days.

Craigslist and don't dally.
If its a good deal it will be gone very quickly.
Usually within an hour or so, not days.

I would have written that "Craigslist and do
it daily - or twice or 3 times daily. And
don't dally."
