well, working on this pto that wouldn't go in gear. pulled shaft & find broken/missing snap ring in bearing retainer. -seen that before--pull shaft out & find centering pin on input end had broken off. broke off in shaft!--haven't seen that before---ouch! Where to start split?

Well, in answer to my own question, got a picture breakdown of the way this thing is made. looks like 2 different styles.one that I am familiar with has the pilot pin made on the end of pto shaft. slides into bushing/needle bearing in transmission. this is made with pin in transmission, hole with bushing in pto shaft. cause had to be raising 3-point into drive shaft. for now, thinking about blocking in gear.

Sorry I can't help, but since it sounds like you've been through this before I wonder if you can pass along any wisdom.

I just snapped the splines off of the PTO shaft on my Ford 3000 (4 speed with hi/lo) while cutting hay. Looking at the diagram online (here: http://www.partspring.com/catalog/product/view/id/521374/s/3000-series-39799/category/86/ ), do I just undo and pull the 4-bolt cover and slide out the shaft and then reverse the procedure to put it back together?

Thanks in advance for any help.
