Ford 800 pistons

Am doing a rebuild on 55 ford 800. While removing #3 piston to replace rings broke the piston. Ordered new piston and could not get it to go in sleeve, thought it was possibly a damaged ring and ordered a new set of rugs. Still could not get it in. Removed #2 piston and rodand it went in #3 hole easily. Got a new compressing ring and again replaced the oil ring and it went into number #2 hole pretty easy. Question would you leave them as is or try again to get #3 in #3 hole? If you said leave them this is going to change the order on the rods 1,3,2,4?
