Ford 5000 clutch replacement

I am replacing the clutch in my 5000 ford and there's an option of a rigid clutch or sprung clutch. Is there a benefit to a rigid clutch?

The spring clutch is supposed to absorb some of the impact of the clutch grabbing, so I would think that the only advantage to the solid hub clutch would be the price.

The rigid clutch was for the 8 speed. The dampened clutch was supposed to be for the dual power models to dampen the shock of the power shift... As long as the spline count is the same I wouldn't get too excited about it. I also haven't seen a rigid clutch blow up. Can't say that for a dampened clutch...

I'd go with the spring cushioned one, providing you know it will fit properly. (Diameter, spline count) I have my 7000 split for a clutch right now.The rivets holding the hub to the disk (rigid) sheared off. A spring cushioned clutch -should- last longer. That said, the rigid disk I'm replacing was in there for about 25 years and more than 5000 hours.
The advantage of a rigid disk is that they're cheaper.

I've seen more than one rigid disc shear off the rivets holding the hub onto the disc center. I've seen a similar number that have not sheared, but were well on their way.

I think the latest dampened discs are much tougher than they used to be. That's what I would go with.
