have ford 9700. is electrical sending unit for oil pressure idiot on left side by oil filter ? where is water temp gauge plug into plug ? is it mechanical or electrical ? also how does one test electrical sending units for both. is it an ohm reading ?

The oil pressure light is not actuated by a sender as such. It's just an open/close pressure switch that goes to ground when there's no pressure... so it takes power off the key, through the bulb and finds ground through the closed switch when there is no pressure.
And yes, the switch is located below the oil filter.
The temp gauge is electric and uses a thermostatic resistor as a sensor. It's located in the front of the head beside the thermostat and upper rad hose elbow. Basically... to test the temp gauge, pull the wire off the sender and ground it with the key turned on. If the gauge fully sweeps to hot then the gauge and wire is fine. If it won't show temperature then you either have a bad sensor, the wrong sensor or an air pocket in the coolant around the sensor...
