Not a single 3 cylinder 4000 ever left the factory with 4WD that I am aware of. I think that might be an early dealer converted County. It must be fun to drive with no power steering. It's right down the road from Old.

Interesting tractor, never seen one before but I'm not up on the European models. I've only seen a couple of European 4000's, always thought the six lugs rear wheels looked funny.
Upper and lower grills are replacement pieces, I may be wrong but thought straight non drop lower draw bars where only available aftermarket.

Price seems a little high to me, but I'm not a collector.

Interesting tractor.
There were photos or an ad for a 3000 FWA
conversion floating around a couple of years
ago.
Why do people not mask the tires off when
they rattle can the rims?
Always makes me wonder what other half fast
things they did to the tractor.

One would think that for a tractor they
are asking top dollar for they would
have taken time to tape off the tires
when painting. Makes me curious what
other shortcuts are hidden under all the
fresh paint

Looks like a Schindler conversion that was used a lot in Belgium, France and Holland. Counties used a similar
axle for their 4000-4 but that would have different badges on the bonnet.

Dealers were fitting Schindler conversions to all the range just before the introduction of Fords own 4wd at
the start of the 10 Series.

As has been said it did not leave the Ford factory like that but it may have been dealer converted from new.

Interesting. I looked at a 5000 last fall, that had a front drive axle installed. It was not nearly as heavy. The one on this tractor looks like quite the casting. I have photos of it.

The data tag on it says ZF then Zahnradfabrik Passaum GmbH, obviously German.
It still wore its original paint. It was sold by Chambers Ford Tractor Sales, Montgomery, NY.

I was taking a look at a set of 3 pt forks the guy had for sale and I had seen this 5000 in the local ads not long before. Just so happened he bought it, reasonably too, it has a front snow blade on it. Was ironic for me, seeing the ad, thinking, gee that would be cool to see being they are not common. Of all the new thousand series tractors we sold, and the hundred series, I never saw a one with a front drive axle.

Low and behold as I approached his place, there it was, also tipped me off that I was obviously in the right place for the forks, which were too short for my needs anyway, seeing the tractor made the trip worth it !

very nice
man, I'd like to snag a set of those rear tires and rims.
I'd do whatever I had to, to get them on the back of either my NF 960 or my NF 4cyl 4000.
I never could understand Ford's decision to put squat little 28's on those RC tractors.

I have a 4x4 Ford 4000, with a Schindler front axle. Mine is metric axle and has no hub bearings like that one. That one looks Carrareo. Mine was assembled in Michigan, and yes, had a 4x4 kit installed as option. Transfer is listed in parts listing, but axle and drive shaft are not. I have a loader on my tractor, which is typical 8 lug rear axle, 8 speed, and the tractor is just a work horse.

I wouldn't part with mine for that price. Course its a much better tractor.

(quoted from post at 22:53:26 05/17/16) 6 lug! They wouldn't fit!

sorry mark, I didn't realize you were replying to my post.
Yes, sometimes parts need to be 'tweaked' a bit to get them to fit/work. All part of the fun.

Hello Billy , The 4000 has a Roadless (British built kit under license from Selene of Italy) 4x4 conversion kit on it , which used the WW2 and Korean war GMC 6X6 front axles in them . Didn't I show you the 2 kits I had here at the house when you picked up those spindles from me ? The 5000 that you looked at with the ZF 4x4 kit under it must have been a late 5600 or 6600 because that's when Ford started building their own 4x4 tractors with both Carrero's and ZF axles . I was just out talking with Skip Chambers a couple of weeks ago , he still has one Elenco tractor that he will not sell . Thanks Tony
