remote hydraulic valve questions

so - I have a 960 that I purchased 2-3 years ago - I've gone thru a lot of it and have been using it to pick up slack when the other tractors are busy - I hooked it to the mower today - the mower has a hydraulic cylinder that is adjusted by the remote valve -

the valve has three detents/positions - it picks up the mower fine, but when the control is shifted to the middle position it releases the pressure and the cylinder drops - I need it to hold the cylinder where it's set -

This is a little different style valve than is on the other tractors - see picture -

I'm wondering if anyone here recognizes this valve and has any suggestions for what I might do to have it operate the way I need -

in your first picture, sort of in the center, there is a T handle sticking out under the hydraulic hoses, did you try screwing that in or out? On my valve that is the "float" when screwed out, wondering if that could have an impact on your situation?

Also, just to clarify, when you talk about 3 positions on the handle, you are talking about the handle used to move the cylinder in and out, on the far right hand side of the valve close to the positon control handle?

reverse the hoses and see if same thing happens...

Could be....
implement hydraulic cylinder has leaking piston seal...
or control valve has leaking seals.

try raising it, then quickly unplugging it while up... if it stays up, its NOT the hydraulic cylinder leaking down so it must be the tractor. (((It will be hard to disconnect under pressure, so push in and then pull out quickly.)))

"when you talk about 3 positions on the handle,..."

yes - the handle that operates this control valve - there are three distinct clicks associated with it - moved to the rear of the tractor it lifts the cylinder, in the center position it allows the cylinder to drop as it does when pushed to the forward position -

the T handle does kinda feel like a release on a hydraulic jack - I've been tending to other chores and will go fuss with it a little later -

there is an 'extra' fitting that is plugged, the elbow sticking up at the front -

dunno - thanks

I had the mower and cylinder attached to the other tractor a day or two ago and things worked properly - I'm certain this is associated with this control valve -

is there O-rings in there to seal things? -

I'm not familiar with that particular valve, but some of them can be changed between single and double acting. I see three round recesses on the end of the valve block facing the front of the tractor. Do any of those have anything inside the recess that looks like there might be an adjustment, like a flat slot for a screwdriver or a hex recess for an allen wrench?

well - I switched the hoses because why not? one thing that can be done without a wrench -

and - it works fine, kinda - now I push the lever forward to raise the mower, counterintuitive, but now with the lever in the center position the cylinder holds - push it to the rear to lower -

I'll take it - mowed for about an hour - lots of blow by - breather in the valve cover farts right up to the operator - on the other tractors I've routed that breather via a hose to the air cleaner - think I'll do that to this tractor tomorrow -

thanks, both of you -
David

Apparently there is a problem with the load check valve in the valve body, According to the NH parts page here on the internet the only thing available are O rings and I am too old or too dumb to link you to that page.
