PTO bleeds down

My 8n PTO bleeds down so fast that I can only raise it long enough to change from mower to
harrow. I see fluid on ground near left back wheel . When I add transmission fluid it works
well just for about 10 min...then it bleeds slowly down unless I have the "raise" lever pulled
all the way up and leave it there. It wont hold anywhere in between. Is there a reasonable fix
without taking it in. I live in far far West Texas and it is a real job to take anything
anywhere. Not to mention the expense at a Ford Tractor place.

thanx

PTO bleeds down??? The PTO is the drive for things like a brush hog so it can not bleed down. Now yes the 3 point can and sound like you need to do some trouble shooting and if it is the 8N you asked about good chance the lift cylinder rings need to be replaced and or even better up dated to the new improved NAA type of piston and rings

I'm seeing maybee a few issues.

As Old says, the pto is the rear implement drive shaft, and the 3pt are the hyd lift arms.

Bleeding down from a lifted position when the machine I off is a leak. Usually in the piston rings/oring, but can be other places lil a gasket or relief valve.

Open inspection cover and look in/up wile lift is raised and weighted, see if there I oil pouring from the mouth of the cyl. Keep yer fingers out and watch the spinning pto shaft.

Not being able to maintain position I position control usually points to worn, out of adjustment linkage.

Leaks.. Where, be specific. At the pto?
At the axle hub? At the trumpet to center section?
