What happened

Oil is dripping out of the bolt that
holds the fender and 3 pt. Only the
front bolt.

What caused it. Been using it with
woods finish mover. Never used on a
plow or anything that pulls hard.
Thanks
George

Jessie, it's leaking only from the
front fender bolt that holds the
stabilizer bracket. Both bolts were
loose. Measured oil depth in rear end
and there is oil in axle, about an
inch. Cleaned it up. Still haven't
found the crack in axle.

Jessie, No fairy. There is a pin hole,
casting flaw inside the bracket that
holds the front fender bracket.

I removed the bolt, cleaned it up. Put
tractor on a slope and you can see the
casting flaw that took. 63 years to
show up.

I'm having similar issues with
hydraulic cylinders producing pin hole
leaks in the metal or in welds. Explain
that one.
George

In that casting which is mostly full of air, probably 63 years of rust to find the thin spot, but would not think that as good an explanation for hyd cylinder.

Hi George
I have seen the cylinders on a JCB backhoe start out with what appears to be a pin hole in a welded seam in the barrel or an oil fitting boss, Then a guy gets clever and just stick welds the spot closed. about 3 weeks later the split starts running up the cylinder seam or all the way round the boss. over years of use it seems the barrel/ boss flexes some and causes a weak spot, maybe it's the hot and cooling action cycles of running and standing after use. They don't all do it just the odd one, so maybe some welds are better than others in the factory to .
