Putting 24 loop style rims on your NAA, 600, 800, 601, 801

If you want to put 24" loop style rims on your NAA, 600, 800, 601, 801, 4-cyl 2000, or 4-cyl 4000, Here's what you do. You find a set of C5NN1036H cast iron wheel centers off a 3000-series industrial from the mid sixties to the mid seventies. Make sure you get the lug nuts as they are special. More on that later. The dimensions are as follows: total depth of dish- 2-3/4", total diameter- 21-5/8", loop bolt circle- 6 on 20-1/4", loop bolt hole diameter- 5/8", lug bolt circle 8 on 6", lug bolt hole diameter 1" with a taper, center hole diameter- 4-1/4". The special lug nuts are for 5/8-18 threads and have a taper plus a shank that fills in the gap between the 5/8-18 threads and the 1" diameter lug holes in the wheel centers. The centers will clear the drums on NAA, 600, 800, 601, 801, 4-cyl 2000, or 4-cyl 4000, and of course most 3-cylinder industrial tractors. Take a drum with you when you go looking. Again, make sure you get the special lug nuts!

Or, you could just get 24" Ford wheel centers from a similar vintage tractor.

The 24" wheels from the Ford tractors of the era were double-bevel type and rims aren't readily available, so if you have rim eaten up by calcium your best bet is to go with the newer, and much more available, still being produced, loop-type rims. If you're doing a restoration you will probably want to go with double-bevel rims.

Only the industrial 24" rims are double bevel.

24" six loop centers and rims for use on vintage Ford tractors, though not common are available. I have two friends who have such on their tractors, one a 63 2000 LCG, the other an 841 light industrial.

Cool! If you get a chance, would you mind getting part numbers and measurements off the wheels and centers? I went through all this about two weeks ago and there is very little specific information on this swap. The more information that we post, the easier it will be for the next guy to keep his old tractor running or upgraded. Thanks.

I would say that is incorrect.
6 loop 24s were optional on the 2/3000s. They used pressed centers, not the cast ones. The cast centers were used on some of the utilities - like the 3400.
The photo is of the special "top hat" lug nuts used with the cast centers. This is a 3/4" nut off a 4000 but the 5/8" nuts looked about the same.

One owner is in a nursing home and the other is rarely available.

The centers are long since NLS and no longer available from CNH.

I tried to get the spare set of 24" centers that the other owner removed from his 2000 LCG that was originally equipped with 8.2X24" duals but he scrapped them. He does things like that.

Is the OD of the shank of 3/4" "top hat" lug nut about 1" like it is on the 5/8-18 "top hat" lug nut? Did they use them on 6" bolt circle centers?
Thanks

Not true. I once owned an original 841D with 24" double bevel rims. I have yet to see a 4 cylinder prior Ford with loop style 24" rears. Loop style 24" centers for these tractors are hard to come by.

Here is a page from my Parts manual. You can clearly see that they are a 6 loop non beveled rim. They are on my 1963 HD forklift (4 cylinder).

6 loop 24" rims must be still available. Here a set on my 881. They replaced the bevel rims that rotted out, They are stamped 24 12W 96 as in (1996). I also have an original set of 6 loop non bevel rims on my 4000 forklift.

What is the part number cast into the center, what's the diameter of the tapered hole for the lug nuts, what size are your lug studs, and does it use the "top hat" lug nuts? Thanks.

I could not find any marking or numbers on the center disc. The lug nuts are standard for the 881, Centers are cast like the industrial but they are a little different where the loops connect.

quick search on ebay showed a couple listings of the whole 24 setup with tires on stamped centers.

The ebay teardown guy Marty has some 24" centers only off a Dexta listed right now. (better hurry, it's almost over...and I think Marty junks whatever doesn't sell......at least I've never seen him relist when I forgot the time and didn't get my snipe in)

like SoundGuy said, lotta Massey's have the 24 setup.
very common here. I'm always on the hunt for 28's and seems every auction when I see a couple big tires...walk over...dang it..24's again.

What's the bolt pattern on the Dexta and will the wheel centers clear the drums on the hundreds and 01s both ways?

I bought one of the 5/8-18 special nuts from my local New Holland dealer. There wasn't a part number on the bag but my receipt shows part number C5NN1120D.
