Front End Loader Control Valve Problem on Ford 1310

While using my new (to me) 1985 Ford 1310 tractor for the first time today the control valve for the front end loader seems to have malfunctioned. It was normal at first, but after 20 minutes I found that I can lift the bucket up, but can't lower it. The tilt controls seem to work very slowly and there is some wining noise. If I shut down the engine and push the control lever in the down position it will slowly come down. Have I blown out some seal in the valve? Is the valve rebuild-able? Help Pls!

Only thing on a spool valve such as yours that can be repaired with as seal is an external oil leak. Anything other malfunction requires replacement of spool & body together as a unit as these parts mentioned are a machined fit.

Check all quick disconnects to make sure one hasn't come undone and check the three point hitch lever to make sure it isn't running in bypass. If you put the loader control valve in float and the loader goes up the three point hitch is in bypass.

Locate the diverter block that the loader is connected to. It should have a sloted head set screw on it. With a big screw driver turn it to the left and right a few times and see if that helps. Good Luck.

Thanks for the welcome and all the good feedback. I was able to contact the seller and he told me to adjust the height of the 3 point hitch. He said if its too high it will rob all the hydro power. This sounds right because I was playing with it at the time of the malfunction, but I have not had time to try it, need to reassemble the linkage which I took apart in too much hast :)

There is a rod that connects to the upper lift arm that can be adjusted to prevent it from going into bypass when the three point hitch is fully raised. Lengthen the adjusting rod a little at a time until you can pull the three point control lever all the way up without it going into bypass.
