So i just picked up a ford industrial loader backhoe. person i got it from said it was a 1963 ford 4000. after doing some research i am getting conflicting info. code on the gas engine near the starter is 40303S and the serial # is 137289. any help would be helpful. i need to replace the hydraulic pump and it is already an after market with little info on it. Thank you in advance!

Take it to a hydraulic supply company like Parker Store, Cessna pumps were used on lots of equipment, backhoes, high lifts, dozers, trucks with dumps and spreader beds. They should be able to size it for gpm's or match it up with another brand to fit your tractor.
another newbie question.... I changed the oil on the tractor and replaced the filter and used sae 20w oil (per my father inlaws advice). after changing the oil i noticed the oil pressure shot up to 80 psi on the gauge. is this normal or do i need to use different oil. and what is the normal oil psi??
Don't worry about oil pressure being that high after you get heat in the engine it will go down as the oil thins out. 20w oil is quite thick and for vintage ford tractors gas ones atleast of the 50s and very early 60s used flat tappet cams and the thicker oil is better for them. 30w oil is what you should be using in temps that can reach 100* ambient. Then in colder weather you switch down to 20w or even 10w.
I personally in my 641 am running 20w50 Vavoline VR1 racing oil because of the added zinc for flat tappet camshafts to help reduce wear.
Oil pressure is dependent on three things, oil pump pressure regulator, bearing clearances, and oil weight.
A rebuilt engine that has had bearing clearances closed up you can run a lighter weight oil. But in a older engine with larger clearances even when new they had larger clearances you have to run a thicker oil other wise the thinner oil would not build up enough pressure as it would seep out of the bearing clearances faster than oil pressure could be effectively built up.
Thing is this though after you run the engine and heat cycle the oil a few times it will start to read lower pressure. I think my 641 when I did the oil change few months back it was around 60 PSI and when it got to the point of needing another oil change oil was thinned out due to age and heat and pressure was now only reading 40 psi.
