Im getting a very weak spark on my jubilee. Im going to replace the coil but I'm not sure if it is 6 volt or 12. It has been converted to 12 volts but has a resister inline to the wire going to the coil. The coil on it has is a metal case and is a Motorcraft. Could this be the original 6 volt coil ?
Thanks

If it has a resistor in line then it is a 6 volt coil but most of the time the reason you have weak spark is not the coil but cased by a problem with the point either being dirty or gaped wrong

You want about 3.25 total ohms resistance with your resistor and coil added together . If you get a coil with 3.25 ohms resistance then that is all you need . "No Resistor Needed" Napa ic14 or others .

The "Flame Thrower" 12v coils come in .32 , .6 , 1.5 , 3.0 ohms resistance . Some 12v motorcraft coils need an inline resistor and some don't .

efore you shotgun parts fix it.. why not check to see if you just have a bad connection.

if the coil does turn out to be bad. ditch the resistor and just get a napa ic14sb coil... works on 12v, no extra wire connections to a resistor..

Thanks everyone. the coil turned out to be bad and it was a 12 volt.
