Early 4000 Fuel shutoff revisited

I notice that this website now sells a shut-off for the 4 cyl 4000.

I have about 3 of these that I bought new from CNH over the years, NONE of which worked over a day.

I know there is always the option of getting one from NAPA (or where-ever) and putting it in the line, but if these sold on this site are genuinely good, I'd like to go that route.

Anyone know if these are different from the junk ones CNH sells?

Thanks!

Have you bought a genuine CNH valve in a genuine CNH box or just another aftermarket valve sold by a CNH dealer?

I've had much better luck with the genuine CNH valves than any of the aftermarket valves but none last long and all will leak if you do not use the correct O ring when installing the valve.

Thanks guys, but I have indeed bought the $75 ones. From 2 different CNH dealers.
Both leaked right away - and when I say leak, I mean NOT shutting off the fuel.

I have read on here about folks fixing these by filing off the metal ear that holds the plunger in place, replacing an o-ring, and putting the plunger back with a small screw. I would LOVE to see pics of how to do that....As stated I have 2 in my toolbox now that leak.

Did your valves come in CNH boxes. If they did not they are not valves supplied by CNH.

Screw type valves that leak externally can sometimes be repaired by disassembly and O ring replacement. Such procedures are less successful for the lever type valves.

Failure to shut off issues are more problematic. I always snap lever type valves once or twice upon shut off to help seat the needle. I also recommend avoiding Sta Bil and gasoline with ethanol.

Post a pic of the valves you have.

If they are screw type with oring and a drive rivet stop, then pry out rivrt, re oring and tap for a machine screw, or re drive the rivet slightly turned

Looks like the NH OEM valve is $125.00 and their economy with WORGV on the end of the part# is $38.00 but will not work right.

It can be done but usually requires replacement of the OEM fuel line.

The screw type valves will reliably shut off but are also prone to external leakage, though they can sometimes be repaired with patience and diligence.

Both types will leak between the tank and the valve if the wrong O ring is used or if the bolts are over tightened.
