Timing Gear question

Bought a timing gear set (this site). When I align the key slot of the old and new cam timing gear the timing mark align, but when I align the key slots of the old and new crank gear the mark is one tooth off on the new gear. Is this something I should be concerned about. I really don't want to assemble the engine and find out its a problem.
I'm working on a 172 cu in., complete rebuild

Thanks in advance

If your 100% sure that the new one does not meet up to what the old one was I sure would not use it since that can and will cause over heating and other odd problems. If you old gears and not bad I sure as heck would use them since gears do not wear like timing chains do

I'm guessing they are helical gears and when you stack them side-by-side, aligning the keyways, you haven't fully thought out how the teeth and timing marks will appear, even IF the timing marks are correct.

Thanks for the response. Yes they are helical and when stacked key way aligned and teeth aligned I followed the tooth on the top gear to the one it was stacked on. I figure the key way is basically a index mark and they should be marked the same.

Thanks again

Instead of trying to follow the marked helical tooth and expecting it's other side to line up with the marked tooth on the other gear, lay a little square on the face of the gear lined up with the mark, and see if the other mark aligns with the square.

Following a helical gear tooth from one side of the gear to the other will end up being offset from where you started. Set the gears on top of one another with the key ways lined to each other and the visible timing mark at 12:00 and then slide the gear on top toward the 6:00 position without rotating it so that you can see the mark on both gears while looking straight down at them. Do they line up then?
