Ford 621 charging puzzle

I posted a while back that I'd replaced the 6V generator (bearings shot) & regulator (just because) on my 621. Performed the generator motoring test which motored the generator as it should. Hooked everything up, started tractor and the gen. red light on the dash went out upon starting. Life was good. Charge indicated about 8V on my meter.

After running for an hour or so the red gen. dash light came on. Took the regulator off, opened it up and the ARM. buss bar inside had heated up so much that it had annealed and deflected down enough so that the ARM. contacts could not contact. I bent the ARM. buss bar back up to it's original position so that the contacts could contact, put the regulator back together, installed it, started the tractor and the red gen. dash light went out. Felt the ARM., FLD. & BAT wire connections at the regulator and the ARM wires were hot, the FLD. & GEN. were cold. Shut the tractor down, disconnected both battery lugs at the battery and did a continuity test on the regulator wires while still connected to the regulator. ARM. & FLD. show continuity to the tractor frame... the BAT. connection does not. Regulator body shows continuity to the frame. Is all this as it should be? One other thing: the battery does not discharge overnight with everything hooked up.

Why are the ARM. wires getting hot & cooking the regulator? This new generator is marked as 6V but could it have been mis-marked? Running charge shows ~8V so can I assume the generator is correct? Any/all help greatly appreciated.

What amps is it charging at.

Net or gross...

Same current passes Gen as arm, so look for loose connection where it is hot.
