Delo or rotella ?

Looking into that oil brand for my tractor. I thinking someone on here said to go with a 15-40 rottela brand ? Ok if I do so ....is there a set type you should get ? Or is the regular brand the" rottela T " I figured a good brand filter 1515 or 1452 And then get either delo or rottela brand oil.... Which oil is better ? I assume there about the same I guess?

Oil question is kind of like who has the best looking girl friend

I use the shell rotella 15w40 in my gas tractor and diesel pickup,
Both vehicles perform fine with that brand oil,

The guy that farms my land has all kinds of big tractors and trucks, he used the delo brand oil,
Key is to keep the vehicles serviced in a timely manner,

Just pick one and stay with it, proper filters are just as important,

What tractor? What engine? Personally, I wouldn't touch Rotella with a 10 foot pole . . . and I don't know enough about Delo to comment on it.

Both meet the hd diesel oil specs... and both will do well... However early on, delo was the only oil that meet the newer specs up to a year before other oils caught up... However chevron has gone through the mergers like everyone else and i dont know if they invest heavily in r &d like they use to.

But I will tell you this... when wally world gets in a new shipment of hd oil, the delo or le400 is ALWAYS sold out in 24 hours, why the rotella is still on the shelf. So unless I am lucky, i end up with rotella.

Larry,
Please explain what you find wrong with rotella,
I have been using rotella in my tractor and dodge diesel for years with good results,

No problems so far,

I use Rotella in 10w30 and 15-40 in truck and tractors and the freight line I drove for used it in 65 plus vehicles and no problems.

Rotella T and T6 are certified and considered among the top. If you find a specification required that they lack, we'd all be interested. I can imagine that there are few better.

If you ever open an engine that's been on Rotella, you'll find it very dirty, even sludgy.

My Detroit 60 series was in the shop not long ago to run the overheads. The service manager asked me how many miles I had on my oil. I had about 2000 at the time. He remarked how clean my oil/engine looked compared to the one beside mine which had only about 600 on the oil change and was black and dirty as coal.

Have you ever used Rotella in a vehicle and changed it regular and opened it up and see what it looked like? If not how can you say its bad and the truck that was next to yours being worked on did you or man working on it know the history of servicing of it. I have never seen a diesel that the oil doesn't turn black.

Yep , today's oils are not what they were 30 years ago or really even 10 years ago . Rotella 15-40 can be conventional , blended , or synthetic . I would take any brand synthetic diesel rated over the number one diesel rated conventional oil .

I knew somebody with a diesel car; they took it to the dealer for an oil change. When he got home after a 10 mile drive, he checked the oil, it was black, and he complained to the dealer that he thought they had not changed the oil.

Dealer told him to bring the car back, they would change and refill the oil with him standing in the service bay. Then they took a 10 mile ride and checked the oil; it was black.

You haven't seen mine! It will eventually turn black, but it takes awhile. I'll also guarantee that a diesel engine using my oil with regular intervals will be clean if it's ever opened up.

And yes, I've opened a Rotella engine. It was not pretty!
