What would you charge to clear brush?

Friend of mine wants me to haul one of my tractors to his place and help him clear some land. He originally said it was 3 acres but I think it's less.

Biggest problem is its hilly and not an actual field, but overgrown garbage brush. He only has a compact tractor with a belly mower and no brush hog, so that's why he needs me. So it's not going be nice easy mowing riding around a field, but rough, mostly low gear just clear stuff that hasn't been cut in probably 10 years. I'm thinking minimum a full Saturday's work, probably more though.

I'm trying to figure out what I should "charge" him. I say "charge" because it won't be cash but just bartering. I'll clear and he will pay me in parts. i also figure since its trading and not cash, it should be a little high since I have to pay for fuel and tolls myself. Plus this guy loves to trade, so I'll get more from him in parts than if I wanted cash.

My first gut shooting from the hip price was $500 worth of trade. but open to opinions if I'm crazy high or crazy low

Also be real cognizant of unknown terrain, the neighbor over the hill was doing the same thing with a 640 and rotary cutter. He got bounced out of the seat, was run over by the rear tire of the tractor, then through the mower. This was an ugly scene. Walk the site carefully and be safe.

een there done that! My price, "more than you can afford". If you really insist, he fixes & replaces any equipment that gets damaged, plus the $500 parts trade & he takes care of your survivors for the rest of their life.

I think you are REALLY underestimating the amount of effort to clear 3 acres of brush on hilly terrain.

(quoted from post at 20:18:34 04/15/16) Ruining one tire may cost you that much. Who pays for damages to your equipment?

You can sure do some damage to a bush hog with that heavy stuff pounding at it all day . All of the stress may not be evident at the end of the day .

Tell your friend to buy a brush puller works like a clamp for piking up pipe when you pull and buy a cheap 12
volt wench .a guy on you tube uses one on the front of truck for clearing brush. Or just a chain and pull them.I
don't understand how people won't work done and are expected to pay for damages from years of wear and tear . save
your tires buy a puller

Depending on size of brush you may be underestimating the time required. 1 or 2 inches diameter you can drive over and it will go fairly quick. Pulling up brush one at a time or using a box blade to clear it will be slow. If you pull it up or use a box blade then you have a pile of brush to get rid of.
