Ford 871 select-o-speed

Guy wants to trade this for a Diesel MF 65 with a loader. Probably going to say no as I'm trying to get around $4000 for the MF but what about is this worth? Assuming
that it runs and trans works.

I wouldn't.

Value unknown as it depends upon the condition of the transmission, and this cannot be determined without operating it under load when fully up to temperature.

Are you looking to keep it and use it or thinking of reselling it?
No answer to that required really. I ask because the first gen SOS
had a bad reputation that has never gone away. Even though the
later ones proved to be nearly bullet proof, the mere mention of
SOS deducts from the price if you are thinking of resale value.

If you're going to use it, then test it thoroughly first.
In all gears, under load. Get the SOS as hot as you can.

For comparison, I bought this 4000 4 cyl row crop SOS in 2014 for
$1500. It needed front tires but the rears were in good shape.
It also had dual remote hydraulics that I put on my 960.

It's a trike, so the price is lower than a utility to most people.
It has power adjust rims. I don't see those on the 871.
Those rims are getting hard to come by too.

When ever I consider a tractor I always think about selling it. This one would probably get used for a year or more if we liked it. The more I think about it the more I
think I'm not gonna do it.

I'm jealous. That's my dream tractor. Exactly. The only thing it lacks is a chrome pip coming straight up. And some new paint. I came so close to getting one once
but it sold within a day of it being posted, before I could even call.

BTW, if you still wanna try that carb bowl, I'm gonna bring it over to my Grandpa's to give it one more try with his drill and if not I'll send it over to ya.

Use a left hand twist drill bit.
If it doesn't work and doesn't get ruined I'll give it a try.
GB in MT always tells me I have nothing better to do! ;)

If you're out my way we could meet somewhere or if you prefer
you could mail it to me. Doesn't cost much since we're close.

I can't seem to talk Joan into that MF 65 though.
She wants a Blackhawk 35 NF. Sheesh!
