3000 Battery

I have had to replace the bat every 3 years on my 3000
That's a heavy price to pay for more bat than a gasser needs so I converted it to a 48/h6. It was the best fit for the tray and the easiest to make a hold down for. If it does not make it 3 years it has a 3 year free replacement warranty :D

I got around to adding the battery disconnect it was one of my winter projects but I have been to busy to work on my own chit.
This is a mock up pix I sandblasted the tray and parts painted them and hope to get them installed tomorrow on company time

BTW I keep all those RED/black plastic terminal caps you see on the top of the bat to shield the terminals when working around a bat that has been disconnected... DON"T THROW THEM AWAY...

Battery disconnect?

only things in line are... key switch, starter solenoid, light switch and voltage regulator.

None of which draw any power if working correctly. No computers, clocks, radios or dome lights... There is NO parasitic draw on the battery.

I added it because I can and to take the battery out of the circuit so maybe it will last longer. I am not gonna buy a dozen battery tenders...

BTW my rear hood latch would not lock in its been that way for some time. The battery tray was to far in on the front moved it out and locked it in not the hood shuts and locks as it should...

Make sure the battery posts don't hit the hood. A piece of rubber
or plastic might avoid a problem.

What do you do if your bouncing around in the field and sparks start flying out from a wire that rubbed bare ? Might not need it but I don't see it as a bad thing . I don't use my fuel shut off but I know where it is at .

That will never be a issue if it were I would never riggernig it that way... That was a issue with a group 65 post on the wrong side of the bat and to close to the hood. The post on a 48 are below the top of the bat and on the same side as original (Inside). I had to make 1" spacers to use the original hold down bolts. Total height including the terminals is 1/2" lower than OEM... Original cables fit like a glove...

One of my pet-peeves is a battery NOT nailed down...

I remember as a kid , on my dads '70 F350 wrecker , the fan pushing the battery into the 4 core radiator . That was an expensive mess .

You do nice work Hobo but Too much of it.
I use one of those little 1" ratchet straps for a battery hold down. Cut it to size, remove one of the hooks then wrap it around the battery and tray together. Snug it up and give it
a couple of clicks. Can use one or two or four if that makes you feel happy.
Works great.
Did you sandblast and paint your battery tray? Or is someone repopping trays for a gasser now?
Used to be ypu only could repop diesel trays.
Nice work.

You probably need to fasten down your battery...

The point is... there is NO parasitic draw on a tractor battery in that model. If there is, you need to repair the defective part.

AND the battery cutoff will not change using a battery minder or not. Factors of temperature, how long your storing the tractor (not starting it and letting is charge) and battery self discharge. The battery cutoff does not fix any off these problems.

AND....... if the cable shorts out at the pinch point, the battery cut off will not fix that.

AND if the battery posts touch the hood for any reason,,,, the battery cut off will not fix that.

My 3000 did not have a battery . My neighbor had a nice extra for his 5000 . My tray was mangled so I helped it out a little . I had a can of undercoating and liked the way it turned out . I has spent too much time already so I grabbed a ratchet strap instead of building a hold down .

I finally got her back and running after replacing the bottom 3 axle bolts on both sides ???

I was too cheap to buy a shift pattern decal so I welded the numbers on the plate . Turned out Ok for me . I need to get an after pic ( I used an 8 ball for a knob , sorry to the originality police , hey I did wire up the neutral safety switch)

She is covered in mud today , I had to finish bush hogging the low areas before the rain today . I am trying to get the weeds and bushes down before they reseed and it could be a month before it dries up again .

I AGREE :!: :D

BUT I WANTED IT....

None of my tractors need anything other than paint and what I enjoy making for them...

O-well I may as well order up a EI kit fer it 8)

Ken yer look'N GOOD :!:

I did not apply anything other than paint I was gonna do the bed liner thang to the inside of the tray but it would be a beach to remove if I ever had to rebuild the tray...

Dawg its the original tray... I was gonna spend the day fudgen with it but other folks repairs got in the way...

Were the pin goes in the tray were it swivels looks like you are missing the washer. Look at mine I did not paint the washer...

I stuck the pin in for dry fitting , but oddly enough I could not find the washer when it was time to install , I am still lookin for it , when I find it I will put it in my pocket , then I'll see it again a few days later on top of the washing machine and .....

tere is a truck battery setting in my diesel 4600.. same battery my 99 ford powerstroke uses.

starts the tractor fine. easier to tote than a 4dlt.
