Ford Tractor Identification

Please help. I have searched till I can't take it anymore, but can someone please help me identify, or direct me to a website that can actually help me, the number from a tractor I inherited.

It is a Ford with the numbers C5NN 6015 E stamped on the right side of the flywheel housing. About all i have been able to determine is that is was probably made in 1965, but that's about it.

Thanks in advance!
Mark

instead of posting that near useless casting number.. how about posting us the number that will help us, help you!

aft of the starter on the bellhousing flat will be a model ID and serial number. if post 65, there will be a date code as well.

post back

I wasn't aware that was a near useless number. May explain why I can't find anything on it. I will look and post back. May be a day or 2 as I am at work.

Thanks!
Mark

C5NN6015E is a Ford tractor engine block casting number and if it is cast into the transmission bell housing then it is most likely a non-Ford tractor from some other manufacturer that just by coincidence used a casting number for their transmission that matched a Ford engine casting number.

But all kidding aside, a quick google search shows that engine casting number to be a 233 ci which was the engine used on early 5000 series tractors, so it could be a 5000, 5200 or 5500 depending on whether it is a ag chassis, row crop or industrial model.

Exactly where do I need to look to get the correct numbers?

SouNdguy enters his posts on his older phone with tiny keys so he tends to be very economical with his letters. Go to your starter directly to the rear of the starter there is a horizontal flat surface. You will find two numbers stamped int that flat.

I found 3 sets of numbers there:
5201 4C
7M28B
*C189823*

I still cannot them to match up with anything that makes sense.

Ok, so far:

5201 4C

5 5000
20 Row Crop
1 Diesel
4 Independant 540 PTO
C 8 Speed

7M28B

7 1967
M December
28 28th Day of the month
B Day Shift

C189823

C Built in USA

So, it's a 500 Series? Like what though, 5010, 5020?
Whats the HP?

Whats the HP?

You interpreted all of the numbers correctly. It is a 1967 5200, which is the row crop model in the 1965-1974 5000 series. Since yours is a 1967 model, it will have the 233 ci 4 cylinder diesel engine instead of the slightly larger 256 ci version that they changed to on 4/1/68. The PTO HP on yours should be around 56 HP, and on the later ones with the larger engine it went up to around 60 HP.

The 5010 and 5020 tractors were made much later and were quite different from the 5000 and 5200.

Not sure what you mean by "HP of the tractor itself". If you're talking about the engine HP, Ford advertised the engine at 69 HP, but I've never seen any published test results where anyone directly tested the power of the engine at the flywheel. The 5000 was tested for PTO HP and drawbar HP (pulling power at the rear wheels) by the University of Nebraska in their famous tractor tests. The Nebraska tractor tests say that the PTO measured 56HP and the drawbar was around 48 HP for the 1965 diesel 5000 with the 8 speed transmission. The diesel Select-O-Speed transmission tested a couple of HP less in both tests, and the gasoline engine models (8 speed and S-O-S) actually tested a few HP more than the diesel 8 speed in both tests.
