64 Ford 4000 Loader

Well since I was able to pick up the 8N this spring, we have decided to go ahead and Paint and put the loader back on the 4000 Industrial.

Its not a quick connect, so its either gonna be on or off.

I think I have all the gremlins out of it, had a stuck float in the carb, but that seems to be ok now. Might have to take the Power steering bowl off and replace the gasket, I have a small drip there, but nothing major.

The question I have for today though is with the front mounted pump. When I took it off, it was leaking around the shaft a bit, the pump worked fine, but it would leak a small amount of fluid over time.

How hard is it to renew that seal, or am I gonna have to find another pump that doesn't leak?

most shaft seals are easy to replace. Only the very cheapest throw away pumps will usually give your problems as long as it is ONLY a seal and not a cut housing issue.

I have the backhoe 4000 version, and if I am not mistaken the front mount pump is a pretty common model and not very expensive to buy new?/rebuilt.

OR do what I do and buy the 5 gallon buckets of hydralic oil when its on sale. 8)
