Warning Light

Wired the 841 with 3 wire alternator per JMOR wiring diagram. Showing a charge at battery with multi-meter but the warning light continues to burn bright. Have checked and rechecked the wiring, it is per diagram. what am I missing.

how diagram or link to it. Don't remember doing one for 841.

I don't have wiring diagrams in front of me, but I'd say your problem is a ground issue.

IIRC-on the charge light, you should lose ground once alternator is charging, therefore the light goes out. Sounds like you have a constant ground therefore light does not go out.

You are correct. I got it from this sight and have it in my folder with your diagram. Didn't intend to misrepresent.

ight help if I could see it. Also, not every "one-wire" alternator can be connected to operate as a 3 wire, contrary to the "common belief" of many folks. You don't have a "one wire" do you? Light on all the time or just with key on?

3-wire, light is on only when switch is on. I really don't know how to post the diagram I only have a hard copy.

erhaps this one or at least wiring connections like this?

If yes, then in a normal Delco 10-SI installation, the lamp receives power from the ign sw, and the other end of lamp sees a return path to ground thru various resistive alternator components at terminal #1. Then when alternator is up/running, the terminal one comes up to a voltage roughly equal to battery voltage, thus placing approximately 13.5 volts on BOTH sides of lamp & thus no current thru lamp & it goes dark.

Close but not exactly like it. I will try to find the one I have online and post it. Loosing battery on my lap top.. Be back after I get it charged. Don't have the charger with me. Thanks.

(quoted from post at 13:47:41 03/09/16) This is the one I am using.

K, this statement still applies: the lamp receives power from the ign sw, and the other end of lamp sees a return path to ground thru various resistive alternator components at terminal #1. Then when alternator is up/running, the terminal one comes up to a voltage roughly equal to battery voltage, thus placing approximately 13.5 volts on BOTH sides of lamp & thus no current thru lamp & it goes dark.

do you have it wired to the correct tab on the alt?

does the bat seem to charge without it hooked up at startup?

If so.. you might be on a 1 wire that does not behave like a 3 wire, as Jmore stated.

Most do, but not all.
