Sediment Bowl Leaking

Tried searching the forums as this can't be unusual but haven't found a good answer. The sediment bowl on my '55 Ford 860 tractor leaks. The old cork gasket had seen better days so I went to Tractor Supply and bought a new cork gasket, screen and even a new glass bowl since the original had a slight crack in the bottom probably from somebody trying to keep it from leaking before.

I cannot get it to seal properly. Any tricks or recommendations?

Thanks,

Alan

Common for a new one to leak a bit at first. They need to soak up a bit of gas to swell them then they seal well. But you could also have the made in the land of almost right problem also

The filter gasket surface probably is not level any more thanks to some one tightening the bail too tight, with a pliers, warping the assembly. Probably will need a new assembly

I had read a post somewhere to soak the gasket in gasoline before installing. I didn't do that but it has been on long enough to have expanded and seal.

WayneIA,

I think you could be onto something. I got this tractor last fall and I'm still sorting things out. I tried a rubber gasket before I went back to the cork. I'll check out a new sediment assembly.

Thanks,

Alan

Mine has a rubber gasket, I would try a rubber gasket,
Should be able to buy them at the parts store

Even My old 1958 Johnson outboard motor gas one of these fuel line glass filters, they can be a real pain to stop leaking sometimes,
