oil pressure problem

I have a 1964 4000 w/172 engine gasser I was working it today only 3 hr. oil pressure is a zero at idle but as the RPMs are increased the oil pressure will climb up to 40 psi at highest rpm. I just got this tractor last fall and I changed all the fluids and filter new gauges. what is going on or do I need an overhaul or is there an additive that will help I used 10w-30 in the change with filter? Any help would be appreciated thank you.

if its not fuel contamination as said above,

then I would change to a diesel oil
like shell rotella 15w40 oil
are you using a standard Ford tractor filter and not some cheap fram filter

my old worn tractor will hold much better oil pressure with shell rotella 15w40 oil.
its great oil and has zinc in it for longer motor life,

My recommedation would be to drop the oil pan and check the pressure relief valve; it maybe stuck open.

lets see some backup data on your fram filter hating. and I don't mean rumors from 1980 that you heard from someone else.

I've got fram and when available supertech filters on a FLEET of tractors.. for a couple decades now.. .. I've never had a lube related failure.

if the gauge is good, then going from 15w40 oil to 10w30 oil shouldn't really help you any. You have a problem that needs addressing.

if you had good pressure when you bought it and none now. we need to investigate further.

what were your pressures?

did they just change this last run, or gradually go down?

do you have a spare gauge to check with?

If not fuel contamination, hydraulic contamination...

if not then oil pump problem, or worn mains and inserts...

The first suggestion , change oil,, then recheck... if good cold and then drops, again,, I would drop the oil pan, check clearances and then change all the inserts and main caps if needed and replace oil pump...
