Question about leaking fuel shut off valve on a Ford 800

Want to say thanks to everyone for all the information on this forum. I had several fuel leaks, and by reading the threads here i was able to find out what i needed to do to repair them.

Decided to do the 'drill out and repair' method, that is talked about often, and that Texas did a tutorial on (in the thread i linked below). Spent an hour or so taking the body panel off, and finally got the tank off... much to my delight, someone had already performed this repair at some point in the past. So all i have to do is replace the seals and put it back together. Couple of questions:

1. Are neoprene orings ok to use between the valve/tank and for the oring inside the valve? Does it matter if i use a flat washer or an oring between the tank/valve?

2. There is another fuel shutoff just above the sediment bowl that was leaking... i was thinking that i would do what Greg1959 did in this post, where he replaced all of that with brake line and a ball valve.

So to do this, do i just get a few feet of 1/4" brake line from autozone or something, and then just bend it a little with my hands? Anything special i should ask for, or will they know what i need if i just tell them i need some steel brake line? (never bought any before).

Thanks for any advice!

Do yourself and use the proper O-ring between the valve and tank. Most people do not have such small cross section O-rings on hand. The easiest place to get one likely is your CNH dealer.

you need to use the o ring between the valve and the tank, by the way you can replace the valve without removing the tank or hood

I would not use neophrene, I would use nitrile.

don't use a washer. use a correct thin profile oring like Dean mentioned. SOME better / bigger multi kits have one close enough, otherwise CNH.

As another poster said. the tap can come off with tank and hood in place.

Thanks. Ended up going to a ford shop, and they looked up the part number for the o ring between valve/tank. They didn't have an o ring for the valve stem, so i went to Lowes and got a pack of faucet o rings that looked similar in size (Danco #36 O-ring 5/16" OD x 3/16" ID x 1/16", in case anyone needs that info).

Put it all back together, with a ball valve like in the other thread, and dont have any leaks. Thanks everyone.
