Hi looking for some advice on my ford 4000. It's a 66' with 3cyl and select o speed trans. I'm having issues with the pto. The pto runs fine until you put it under a load once it's under a load it completely stop spinning any advice would be great thanks Zach

When you push the handle in does the PTO come to a complete stop on its own without anything attached to the PTO? If so, then it may be as simple as an adjustment of the PTO control cable. If you have either a Ford or I&T service manual the procedures is in there. If you don't have a service manual, get one.

Yes I do have the manual I have a very big and
detailed manual for it nothing about this though . I
have played with cable adjustment as well either
way nothing on pto or even my snow blower hooked
up to it under no load the shaft will slowly spin when
disengaged

Not sure I'm totally understanding you. In one post you say it spins with no to light load. This would be considered normal, especially when the oil is cold.

Now then, when you put the thing under load and it stops, you do have the PTO control cable pulled completely out in the engaged position?

Larry I have a snow blower hooked to it with pto
disengaged it very slowly spins which I understand
from others is normal now when u engage pto it
kicks right in spins blower no problem until u back it
into the slightest amount of snow it just stops
turning all togetger

It's likely just a PTO control cable adjustment, but could be worn clutches or lack of hydraulic pressure.

Here's the way I like to adjust that cable, engine not running:

1. Remove the conduit nut at the transmission cover.
2. Fully engage the PTO control.
3. Remove the jam nut that secures the PTO control to the dash.
4. Loosen the upper conduit nut.
5. Making sure to maintain the fully engaged position of the control handle, turn it counter clockwise until the conduit is snug against the transmission cover fitting.
6. Ascertain your adjustment by attempting to pull the conduit away from the transmission fitting. You should not be able to move it without extreme pressure.
7. Replace and/or tighten all hardware.

Thanks Larry I'll check the adjustment again on it is
the hyd pressure for pto from the pump on the
engine or is there another pump internal for that

The S-O-S transmission has its own internal hydraulic pump up in the front of the transmission that provides the hydraulic pressure for all of the functions within the transmission including the PTO clutch. If the transmission is shifting fine in all gears then the pump itself should be fine, but you can go through the pressure tests in the service manual to be sure. If the pressure test shows the pump is good then any pressure issue related to the PTO would be the result of a leak somewhere.

Thanks Sean I will get the pressure checked on it
then go from there is drives great in all gears so
guess either it's bypassing somewhere or the pto
clutches are shot
