Does anyone have a good recommendation for a replacement muffler? I see Stanly is made in America and I'm guessing the A&I mufflers are
Chinese. Any other brands I'm overlooking? The tractor is a 1979 545 diesel (oval muffler). My current muffler is starting to split at a seam. I
don't mind paying a little more for a quiet muffler as I have heard folks mention some don't quiet the 3 cylinder very well.

Generally, the oval ones do a better job of quieting them down than the round ones. Stanley mufflers are OK, but Donaldson are better, if you can find them. Be prepared to pay more for a Donaldson.

You can get a short barrel, oval Stanley with a tall outlet and turnout from TISCO. Should sell for right at or a little under $100 plus any shipping. Your local TISCO retailer may be able to stock order it without freight cost depending on his policies. About half the cost of OEM, twice the cost of the short round Stanley, and the noise level is inbetween too.

I have had good luck at tractor supply. They have a good selection and can order other sizes with no shipping if it comes to the store.

On the 4000 3 cyl., the weight of the muffler rests on the exhaust manifold. I like the removalable feature, but figured the lighter the better. I had our local muffler shop make me one that is light and I wear ear plugs. Everybody should anyway.
