861 wheel weights or fluid or both?

Going to put the light duty pie weights on an 861 I just got and was wanting some ideas on how much (if any)liquid ballast should you run with the 800 lb pies. I have been running a half set pies on my 660 with about 1/3 full of fluid per 12-4 -28 tire and seems to be about right for that tractor. The 861 will be used for some grading, bushhogging, some plowing etc. Anything needing more weight/power will be done by my 4610 su which weighs around 7000 lb. I'm thinking maybe just the pies will do what I need from this tractor. What do you guys think??

I use cast iron on all of my vintage Fords that are used for any drawbar work.

For multiple reasons, I never use liquid ballast.

I would think the light set would suffice, with a mower on you'll have plenty for that kind of work. Same with a rear blade. If it has a loader and traction is an problem fluid ballasted tires and the weights won't hurt, and maybe you don't necessarily have to use CACL, given you have wheel weights already.

I've had my 850 set up with lots of ballast weight, CACL loaded tires and this cast iron counterweight attached to the lift arms, resting on the old lower arms of a backhoe mount it still has. With no weight, its useless, tires loaded not bad, but with both the loaded tires and the rear weight, its just right. I believe its an as needed scenario, one which you determine based on the work you do, how much weight to put on. Even with the above, once the snow and ice makes things slippery, double ring chains really make a difference, all depends, some snow I get good traction in, but get the hard pack under it, or some ice, either salt/sand the heck out of it, or put the double ring chains on.

Yeah Dean, I'd rather just have the weights on back. I have to run front wheel weights plus full of fluid in 600-16 front tires to keep my front end down while pulling a 6' bushhog or discing on a hill. I'll get the fluid taken out before I install the pies.

If you already have fluid in them I would leave it there or put new tubes in them, you will never get it all out
