My new to me 861 powermaster

Model 660

A buddy and I have done some trading. So it's official, I'm the new owner of this machine. It runs really good with plenty of power for it's size. It will need a paint job a little later but all in good time. The lift pulses a little when raising so I guess a hydraulic pump overhaul is in it's future. Been a while since I did one of those, but I guess it will come back to me. It appears that this tractor hasn't been run a whole lot because the pedals are not worn but very little and the shifter is as tight as I've ever seen one, but it does have a rebuilt engine with 190 hrs on it with a new dual clutch, new brakes. Tires are about half in back ,but are cracked pretty bad. I'm really tickled to have it because it reminds me of an 861 my Dad bought new in 1960. I'll try to post some pics

The 3 point pulsing a bit is very likely to be a simple fix like a cam follower pin which if worn will cause that problem

Nice looking tractor, I have one that is in about the same shape as yours. I do everything from plowing, discing, planting and all the hay work. It is a powerful tractor for its size, wish mine had power steering like yours.

Hundreds are my favorite,800 in piticular. They feel like hp is much higher than rated. Look's straight and no rust coupled with your statment about tight pedals lead's me to believe you have a goodun. If the emblem on nose is origional we know it hasn't worked much. It's interesting that engine already needed rebuild, much less replacement.

Thanks Jeff, I like running the 5 speeds and yeah, I like the power steering. I think it would be good if it was a diesel for the fuel economy, but no more than it will be run for long periods, it will be fine. Besides, I enjoy hearing the gas burners run.

Yeah da..bees, I'm kinda thinking now that maybe it was run out in a field most of the time cause you wouldn't be shifting or braking too much working a large field . Just a guess

I dunno, it looks a little worn to me. Has some dirt on the
floorboards. If you're close to me I can come pick it up so
you don't have to mess with it.........

I'm kidding of course! It looks great! I'd love to have an 861
with power steering around here. New motor and clutch to boot?
Sounds like it should last you for a long time. Congrats!

I'm satisfied with my Jube but your Powermaster has been my idea of an upgrade if & when I really needed one.

Congratulations! Whet a gem!

I think I'll take one into a paint program and see how they would look all light grey or reverse the grey and red so that the grill and hood are grey and the doglegs red.

Ever seen one with an NAA grille?

If it runs as good as it looks you have a keeper there. Those front wheel weights will come in handy for hauling wood or brushhogging. If you ran to serial numbers is it a '58 or '59?
Good luck with your new tractor.

Kirk

It has newer front wheel weights than the tractor. The weights have a C5NN part or casting number and if someone close had the older style and wanted to trade, I 'd be very interested. I'd like to fix the tractor to look like my Dad's. 861 looked like when I was a kid. I guess I'm crazy but that's what I'd like.

Royce, I"ll keep you in mind LOL.Thanks. My Dads old 861 was the reason for me getting the 660 20 years ago
lol. I guess now I should sell the 660 LOL.

I'd be looking at something other than cam pin for pulsing.

cam pin may make you loose resoloution on the quadrant and total lift height.. but pulsing is a leakdown and regen, or things like plungers in the pump.

Woo Hoo! Congrats! Paint job? nah, she's a worker, lol. Sometimes i think these old machines just need to run, and a lot of little things that seem wrong may just go away?

Yeah, I'm gonna use it for a while like it is,but I'm trying to get everything together to have so when I do get to the painting,I won't have to search for them. Here's the pies I'm going to put on the power master. They came on a 861 my Dad got new. They're on a 1365 Oliver with front loader. I'm getting some heavy duty pies in the tractor deal that will go on the oliver.
