Has anyone done something different with the rear main seal felts? Seems like a better alternative would be to fill the voids with RTV instead of the felt.

What is the best paint to use when I'm ready to paint the tractor? I'm going to prime the assembly with an enamel, probably rattle cans. Once the tractor is assembled, I'll have it sprayed by a friend with experience and a good gun. I painted the interior of the main castings with Red Glyptol.

Thanks for any advice!

If your friend has experience let him pick the primer.
He can match it to the paint he chooses to use.
I would skip the rattle cans all together.
They are an expensive option for a thin layer of coverage.

I would also skip the RTV.
The original seals have worked fine for many years.

Just my opinions of course, its your tractor.

The wedges are not felt but, rather, IIRC, compressed paper. Upon contact with oil, they swell producing a tight seal.
