I have replace the ripper tip on my shanks before, local farm store has them in stock.
much cheaper to replace the ripper tip

I just heated them up in the area of the indention, then hit the indented area with a large punch, indented it enough so they would not come off, worked fine.

welding them on, if the tip gets bent you have to buy the whole shank, if you cannot cut the tip off, also it has no give or movement if you hit a rock.

how are the new ones made, loose I think.

I'm with SouNdguy. I would just get some hard face rod, cut some steel to weld onto what is now there, then hard face the tip and front, then weld them on.
