Got a Ford 5000 - always wanted one!

I'm so happy I'm about to bust. My granddad traded his '66 5000 diesel w/sos for an 8000 in early '69. Love the 8000 (grandad's gone, still
got 8000), but always wanted a 5000 like he had. He missed it too, after it was traded. Fellow called me Tuesday and offered to sell me his.
Traced the history on it and turns out it belonged to a neighbor who bought it from the same dealer right after PaPa bought his. It's in
great shape - paint's good, only leak is a power steering leak in the box at the end of the column. Runs strong, no smoke, sos shifts through
all the gears smoothly, but the cable needs slight adjustment - doesn't want to go into park with the handle - you have to grab the housing
around the handle and twist it, then it goes into park just fine. Hydraulics and pto work fine. Steering has a little more play than I want,
but hoping I can adjust that. New front tires, back tires about 25-30%, power spread wheels, 3 front weights, new instrument cluster, front
lights work (missing rear light), has toplink. Getting tractor, 6' finish mower, NH rake (unsure of model), and NH 478 mower-conditioner -
all for $6300. Just had to crow a little, thanks for letting me!

Happy for you. That steering leak is not un-common on those & not a bad job. Will expect pictures. :)

The guy who's selling it to you is probably going to miss it too. That sounds like a pretty good price considering the extras. As Bern said hard to go wrong with a 5000 ford.

There is a guy in the Spokane WA Farm and Garden CL that has a trans / rear end for a 5000 that was parted out... Worth looking into. It is a 2 stick tranny I think. Bryce

Thanks Bryce,
I had come across that one. The price is good, I expect I could get both for $2,000, but shipping across the country would be nearly as much I'm afraid.
