complete overhaul, new sleeves, pistons, machine work, head, valves, block reconditioned, injection pump, injectors, etc, Tractor was run on dyno 2 different times, runs great, starts good! Engine was all dissassembled and rechecked, run on dyno again for 2 hours, It will quit dripping oil when its warmed up and working but once it sits a couple days and gets started it will drip oil again. Does seem to have quit high oil pressure on the guage, did try another guage and reads the same, runs up to 90 psi on start up, doesnt drop much when it warms up!! Where could the oil be coming from??? It is engine oil and not diesel fuel!! Thanks for any info!!!

I just completed a diesel overhaul on my 821, it does leak fuel down the exhaust stack when first started and just idling, but when warmed and working there is no fuel sign at all. I spoke with a friend who says it is completely normal because the engine is not fully warmed up. I hope he is right, I just asked that same question to him last week.

called spitting or slobbering...

due to either a bit of moisture in the exhaust pipe, unburnt fuel from cold engine or dirty injectors or exhaust valve guides having some wear and letting oil through. when engine is parked the exhaust valves will let the oil ooze through into the combustion chamber and then it will come out when engine is first started. It will be blown around the exhaust manifold and finally out the stack, and finally burn off when hot. Pretty much normal on lots of diesels.. especially when cold.

Running a good commercial injector cleaner through it can help if it unburnt fuel.

replacing valve seals and valve guides if oil and excessive. Or knurling the valve guides.

keeping tractor out of rain and good rain cap and seal on exhaust especially if vertical exhaust system will reduce water buildup.

Unless excessive, its normal, and not a problem other than looks of the crud on the exhaust pipe and manifold. Helps to run tractor long enough to get to full working temperature and burn the exhaust clean each time. This also help the oil by getting it hot enough so that it sheds its moisture as well.
